UNDERSTANDING BRITISH & AMERICAN LITERATURE★ | In this course, major literary works of various forms and genres and selected, read, and discussed so that students may understand the basic ideas and structures of literature. Since this is an introductory course to British and American literature, basic literary terms and approaches are introduced in class. |
ENGLISH GRAMMAR★ | Intensive review of contemporary English grammar. Descriptive analysis of grammatical structure from the viewpoint of traditional linguistics; parts of speech; phrase and clause patterns; various types of complex sentences. |
UNDERSTANDING THE BACKGROUND OF ENGLISH LITERATURE★ | Studies the two great roots of English literature, Hellenism and Hebraism, and their views of world, history, and man through the Bible and the Greek mythology, works that represent the two spirits. This course also explores in a feminist perspective how the universality and particularity of the Western culture and literature could be related with the Korean woman who will meet the twenty-first century. |
TEACHING PRONUNCIATION | This course focuses on practicing and guiding English pronunciation from a teaching-learning perspective. Students can learn various ways to conceptualize the phoneme system of English, and deal with various theories and models about pronunciation. Finally, it deals with specific issues related to the teaching of English pronunciation in the Global English period. Through this course, students can gain the expertise of various perspectives in the English pronunciation system, and develop effective methods for teaching English pronunciation based on modern theories and models. |

TECHNOLOGY ENHANCED LANGUAGE TEACHING | This course introduces a variety of technology applications for pedagogical use. Students will explore the language learning benefits of blogs, wikis, and instant messaging systems. Additionally, students will have opportunities to evaluate and produce multimedia materials for language classrooms. The goal of the course is to develop students' technological literacy skills and provide practical ways to apply technology to learning in principled ways. |
BUSINESS START-UP I★ | This course aims to develop a business model that is actually sustainable, and to establish an enterprise. Students will take on various roles within the company, including the CEO, depending on their respective competencies and interests. Credit is given according to actual corporate operating results such as sales and net profit, and is a player's course to take Business Startup II. |
CHILDREN'S LITERATURE IN ENGLISH★ | Reads major works of children's literature, like Peter Pan, Cinderella, Alice' Adventures in Wonderland, and so on, and studies the influences they have on the process in which children acquire language, culture and a series of identities. |
ENGLISH PROFICIENCY AND SELF LEADERSHIP | This course designed to help the students who will make professionals and leaders in the 21st century by providing reading and discussion as well as authentic opportunities to practice communication skills in English that functions as a global language. MEDIA LITERACY | In this course, students will develop knowledge and ability to make critical analyses of what they see and read in the new media flow and how TV and film businesses promote certain ideologies. Through the analysis of selected reading materials and TV and digital media, students will examine and evaluate how images and ideas are expressed in the media and how they affect the way they think. |
ENGLISH-KOREAN TRANSLATION IN DIGITAL ERA★ | This course is designed to help students analyze various kinds of problems encountered in the process of English-Korean translation, and enhance students' ability to tackle translation problems effectively. The understanding of the correct and logical use of Korean language is required. |
MATERIALS DEVELOPMENT AND USE | This course focuses on the development and evaluation of various types of materials for English education. Students will have many opportunities for hands-on-exercises and workshops. |
TEACHING LISTENING AND SPEAKING | As the name implies, this course centres around the many different aspects related to the teaching of listening and speaking. Students in the course will be furnished first with some of the underlying systems related to the skills of listening and speaking. This includes both linguistic and psycholinguistic aspects. They will then be given opportunities to review methodologies and approaches for the different aspects of teaching listening and speaking. By the end of the course students should be well-versed in the underlying aspects of listening and speaking as well as many of the most modern approaches and methods for developing the skills in students of different ages and levels. |

LANGUAGE IN SOCIETY·SOCIETY IN LANGUAGE | This course explores the relationship between language, society and culture. Considering the interesting phenomena surrounding language function and language in social culture, students will be asked and answered various questions. How do dialects in each language come into being? What factors influence language use? How are perceptions of standard language and dialect speakers different? What are the differences in language usage between men and women? In the process of finding answers to questions, students have a new understanding of their views on language. |
LANGUAGE AND PSYCHOLOGY | This subject introduces linguistic theory from the perspective of cognitive psychology. In addition to background knowledge in linguistics and cognitive psychology, related research such as communication system of non-human species, language acquisition, bilingualism, language and memory, language and thought are also considered. Through this course, students will have various theoretical knowledge of how people can acquire, use and understand language, understand the experimental different evidence supporting these theories, and have knowledge of the main experimental skills of exploring the language processing process. |

TESL YOUTUBE PROGRAM ANALYSIS AND DEVELOPMENT | In this course, students will find popular English education videos or videos that can be used for English education on YouTube sites, analyze them based on theories related to English education, and learn how to post YouTube English education videos in creative ways. This is aimed at helping students act as leaders in creative English education in a rapidly changing digital age. |
INTRODUCTION TO TRANSLATION | This course provides major concepts and types of translation. The course aims at preparing students for producing translated materials which help facilitate international communication in accordance with translation purpose and environment. |
INTRODUCTION TO ENGLISH SYNTAX | This is an introductory course to English syntax inspired by Chomskyan theory. It helps students acquire fundamental concepts of sentence structure and understand relationships among forms, functions, and meanings. Further, it is hoped that students raise ability to make syntactic analysis of sentences through logical argumentation. |
